School History

Origin of School Name

Our school’s name commemorates the founding father of the Republic of China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen. There are more than 20 schools of the same name around Taiwan. In 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen overthrew the imperial government of China and established the first democratic republic in Asia. His statue graces our campus to this day.

History

Our school was founded in 1952. Our first principal was the first female elementary school principal in Taiwan. At the time of its founding, the school had only three classes and offered school lunches freshly prepared on campus to its students. We were a pioneer in school lunches, as other schools did not offer such service and students would have to bring their own lunch boxes to school. Today, having grown to more than 100 classes, our school still provides its high-quality school lunches of rice, three kinds of vegetables, one piece of fruit, and a bowl of soup for only one US dollar per meal. These affordable, delicious, and nutritious lunches have become one of the hallmarks of ChungShan.
